Modeled after the real lighthouse at Cape Hatteras, this wooden lighthouse is painted black and white. Light up your flowerbed or garden with this Amish made lighthouse. Handcrafted of premium exterior wood and hand-painted with exterior latex paint, this Amish Cape Hatteras lighthouse is designed to handsomely weather the elements. Each wooden Cape Hatteras lighthouse has an electrical light installed and is ready to be plugged in an enjoyed.
The standard Cape Hatteras lighthouse comes with a non-blinking light. Just run an extension cord to your lighthouse to power it. You can also choose to upgrade to a blinking light for a more realistic lighthouse look. For the 4 and 5 foot lighthouses another optional upgrade is the revolving light - the ultimate in realism. Skip the extension cord entirely by upgrading to the solar light. The solar light includes a dusk/dawn sensor which turns the light on at dusk and off at dawn.
History of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse
The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is located on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. First constructed in 1802, at the request of Alexander Hamilton after his ship almost crashed and sunk off the coast.
The original light was 112 feet above sea level and was visible in clear weather for a distance of 18 miles. In 1871 a new tower was erected, having a height of 200 feet and the original tower was demolished the next year.
Considered the most important lighthouse on the east coast due to the notoriously treacherous shoals which extend for 10 nautical miles from the cape.
